DESCRIPTION

This page describes the codes used the fields latlng_basis, latlng_precision, and prc. These fields are included if you specify show=loc when listing collections.

PBDB VOCABULARY

If the loc block is included, responses in the pbdb vocabulary will include the fields latlng_basis and latlng_precision. If not empty, the contents of each field will be one of the following codes:

latlng_precision

COMPACT VOCABULARY

If the loc block is included, responses in the compact vocabulary will include the field prc. If not empty, the contents of this field will be a two letter code. The first letter represents the basis, as follows:

stated in text

L

based on nearby landmark

P

based on political unit

M

estimated from map

U

unpublished field data

The second letter represents the precision, as follows:

D

degrees

M

minutes

S

seconds

1-8

decimal degrees of precision
